Knowledge, Beauty, Life
In the early 19th century, Friedrich Froebel's 'Gifts' revolutionized the way that children learned how to develop an awareness of the physical world. He created Kindergarten, a place in which they could observe and interact with nature and develop the skills of judgement and invention. His was a philosophy that was based on structured activity based learning.
Here, his gifts are employed as a means of breaking down barriers and to encourage a sense of play within an installed laboratory environment, to explore the complexity of human relationships and their interactions with the 'Imperfect other'.
The viewer is invited into a process of revelation, as the true nature of these objects comes to light, concealing a disquieting message beneath a veil of aesthetic beauty.
